Close Encounters

This beautiful animal park is located in Jones Mills, PA, just 2 miles from the Donegal PA turnpike exit. We are less than an hour drive away from Pittsburgh, Somerset, Johnstown, and parts of West Virginia and Maryland.  We are situated in the heart of the Laurel Highlands. This area provides beautiful seasonal foliage and nice temperate weather.  With over 300 animals of 50 different species, we provide a unique interactive experience that allows visitors to get closer to the animals than ever before. Leave your binoculars at home, but don’t forget your camera for those once in a lifetime photo opportunities.

Feed the animals from the palm of your hand, ride a pony, hold a variety of animals, and reach out and touch wildlife!

At Living Treasures Wild Animal Parks, we strive to bring you as close to the animals as possible. With the new exhibits at the Laurel Highlands location, the only thing that separates you from our big cats is an inch of glass. Enjoy this up close experience and see these majestic animals like never before. And don’t worry; it is completely safe.

At Living Treasures, you can get up-close and personal with your favorite animals! Have you ever wanted to ride a giant horse? Have your children ever asked to ride a pony? At Living Treasures Laurel Highlands, you can do just that!

Our horses and ponies give thousands of visitors rides throughout the year. They are trained and ready to give you a fun experience.

We have been receiving an abundance of emails and calls about the sloth encounter experience. This experience is not being offered and will not be offered unless we get to a place that looks like old normal. No masks, no social distancing, and no covid restrictions anywhere. If that happens, we will test to see if she is interested in doing encounters. It is possible that she will choose not to participate and that the encounter experience will not be offered again. We appreciate that there are many people excited about the experience, but we need to focus on the part of our business that can operate safely during this time and we need to focus our time, energy, and customer service on the things that we can offer and not the things we cannot. You can watch our facebook page or our website for updates. We are asking that no one emails or calls about the experience. Anyone with an outstanding gift certificate may email for a refund.

New For 2019. Living Treasures in the Laurel Highlands has openned a new habitat that you are welcome to enter and meet our family of parakeets. Whether just stopping in to say hello or buying some seed to feed from your hand; this new interactive experience is perfect for the whole family.

At Living Treasures Laurel Highlands we believe that interaction is a healthy and educational experience both for our animals and the people who enjoy their company. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, we have members of our staff get animals out of their enclosures for an up close and personal encounter. These members of our staff also give educational classes at various exhibits and areas throughout the day. Our staff provide information about various species on display at Living Treasures Laurel Highlands. Before and after these classes take advantage of this opportunity to touch a baby kangaroo, snakes, baby and adult tortoises, and whatever else our staff may have out that day. (All outdoor activities are weather permitting.)

Our Education/Interaction Coordinator is here(Weather Permitting) from 10am-5pm From Memorial Day Through Labor Day.

Visitor Reviews

Nice place to take your family for a day. Lots of good information on most of the exhibits about the behaviors of the animals. More of an I close experience than any zoo I have ever been too. We have a season pass and the kids ask to go all the time during the summer. We can’t wait to return because sometimes you miss a few things you see the best trip.

This animal park is great. Hands down, great. My family enjoy it so much that we purchased the season pass for 2019. It is reasonably priced and so close to home. Its a nice alternative, than driving to Pittsburgh. They have a nice variety of animals like lions, camels, alligators, tigers, wolves and so much more. They do special events during Halloween (evening walk through) and my son’s favorite Super Hero Day. Its not as big as the Pittsburgh Zoo, but it’s still a very nice place to enjoy the day. If you haven’t been there before, please go and enjoy. If you haven’t been there for a while, go back! They have been adding a lot of new exhibits!

Great way to see animals in a way you rarely get to experience in a regular zoo. More to see than in the Pittsburgh Zoo.
